Conscious Despair
The Despair that is Conscious of Being Despair and Therefore is Conscious of Having a Self in Which There is Something Eternal and Then either in Despair Does Not Will to Be Itself or in Despair Wills to Be Itself In the course of Kierkegaard’s article, he suggested that despair is a disparity in the body and spirit relationship. ... These people, according to Kierkegaard, are in despair because they are missing out on some aspect of human experience and are failing to be human. It has been discussed that despair that is ignorant is the despair of not knowing that one is in despair, which is the most common form of despair. Such people are obviously defensive when they are told that they are in despair. He thrives in sensate categories and is too afraid to undertake being a spirit and indeed an individual is furthest from being conscious of himself as a spirit when he is ignorant of being in despair. He is not aware that he himself is a spirit and therefore he is not aware that he is in despair, he is automatically suffering from despair. But in this section, the despair that is conscious of being in despair, a distinction must be made first. It must be understood that as the “level of the consciousness of what despair is can vary exceedingly, so also can the level of consciousness of one’s own state that is despair.
