Realism and Complex Interdependence In the Current Global Setting There is an undeniable disparity of political processes under conditions of realism and complex interdpendence; differences in the goals of actors, the instruments of state policy, agenda formation, linkages of issues and the roles of international organizations. ... This is particularly true in the current global setting; countries today have better things to do than participate in the kind of organized violence that dominated the international politics of the realists. ... Politics is not simply a government concern because the emergence and participation of transnational actors- such as global NGOs and multinational companies- have inevitably given birth to their own agendas, which they have ample power to pursue. ... For example, environmental concerns like global warming and saving endangered species, do not stop at national territorial borders. ... This is not a military issue, yet it is a global concern. ... Furthermore, complex interdpendence suits the current global situation because of the dynamics of linkages among states. ... Such is not really the case today because nowadays, trade and commerce- or the entire global economic system- are playing an increasing role, and have taken the place as the top ranking linkage device of economically strong nations. Finally, today’s global setting disproves the realist concept of international organizations having minimal roles in political affairs.
