One such story that fits the latter criterion is Electra, and the two versions I will be focusing on are Sophocles’ and Euripides’, both written in the 400s B. ... In Sophocles’ Electra, the supporting characters are Chrysothemis as Electra’s sister, and the Chorus of women of Mycenae that serve as a narrative and important characters. The story is more family oriented accentuating the love that Orestes and Electra have for one another as siblings and deals with vengeance, the closing of a chapter of familial murder. ... It seems almost as if Sophocles broke Electra’s personality in two, inventing Chrysothemis to play the role of Electra’s weak half and to wear her grievances.
