Poetry of Departures

In poetry one of the most common themes is parting. Why is this? I am going to compare 2 poems; 'Waterloo Station' by Rosemary Norman and 'Poetry of Departures' by Philip Larkin. 'Waterloo Station' looks at temporary parting. Set in a railway station it tells of how lovers feel pain that only physical contact will ease. 'A hundred stares Faded as we kissed' This part of the poem tells of how, even with hundreds of people watching, the lovers felt that they were alone.
