Kubrick
Kubrick's film tries a different approach to war films by centering its focus on the individual experience, from the first day of Marine Corps boot camp to the veteran mentality of a Marine who has been "in country" too long. Stanley Kubrick uses the film’s focus on the individual to portray that people today are brainwashed products of decades of conditioning. This is apparent in the scene where Gomer Pyle is beaten with soaps in towels. The other members of the troop become upset at Pyle’s nonconformity, and their negative feelings eventually reached the point of violence.
