Fate and fortune in Romeo and Juliet by Baz Luhrmann
The ideas of fate or fortune, reason and haste are the most important concepts in this movie. Right at the start of the movie it is introduced to the viewer by the newsreader when se refers to the “pair of star crossed lovers”. This foreshadows the idea that Romeo and Juliet’s love is destined by the starts or fate. They become victims of a fate over which they have no control.
