Manorialism was a self-supporting system of exchange between classes. Peasants and their lords would be bound by a contract. Peasants had to work farming the lands. They also repaired the lords roads, bridges, and fences. The peasants had to PAY to get married and when their son was knighted, when they inherited land or when they used the local mill to grind grain.
