How did Japan rise to the world power status between 1895 and 1922

Japan was regarded as a world power by 1922. Generally speaking, the criteria of being a world power is to have a good economy, strong military strength, big empire and strong influence on world politics. From 1895 to 1922, Japan had gradually changed from a small country into a world power. Japan succeeded to do so by winning wars and forming alliances with Western powers.

Victory in wars was the major factor that helps Japan to rise to the world power status. The major wars fought between 1985 and 1919 were the Sino- Japanese War, the Russo- Japanese War and the First World War. Japan defeated China in the Sino- Japanese War in 1985. This proved that the Meiji Modernization had succeeded in turning Japan into a rich and strong state. Japan showed the world her strength by defeating China, a country larger than herself for so many times.
