Prisons; The American Penal System Prisons are some of the most terrifying places in society. Most of the prisoners have had too little or too much discipline, come from broken homes and have no self-esteem. Never the less, violent criminals are the reason today that we have to have a strict, cruel penal system. Our society cannot or will not tolerate certain kinds of inadequate behavior. This paper will deal mainly with the struggles of American Penal System, with brief analysis of the issues surrounding work experience and control within the prisons. Living Space Over-Crowded ? (The penal system isn’t all peaches and cream). Since 1980, America’s prison population has more then tripled. It is creeping up to the two million mark. The number of females that are institutionalized has more then quadrupled (Patel).
