Milgram's Study of Obedience

Milgram set-up an obedience experiment to see if the Nazis behaviour was because they were German. Were the Nazi’s evil because they were German, or because of the leadership and pressure from Adolph Hitler. Would you do the same if you were under Hitler’s control? Milgram’s experiment involved two subjects, one being a man/women who thought they were participating in a memory experiment; the other was a scientist who was working with the psychologists. The experiment involved one ‘teacher’ and a ‘pupil’. It was always rigged so that the scientist was always the pupil and the subject the teacher. The teacher was told give questions to the pupil and if they got it wrong they were to give electric shocks to the pupil. The pupil was in another room where the teacher could not see him, but only hear him. The teacher was shown that the pupil was strapped to an electrical chair and could not move much. The pupil told the psychologist and the teacher that he had a heart problem, the psychologist reassured him and the teacher the shocks would not be a problem to him.
