Santiago and the Sea
In the book “The old man and the Sea” one of the main characters, Santiago, has a very strong relation ship with nature and the story has to do with Santiago’s struggle against nature and the sea. Santiago goes out and fights nature in the form of terrible forces and dangerous creatures, among them, a marlin, sharks and hunger. Santiago not only battles with nature but he is also a part of nature when he is at sea. ... Santiago has different views of the sea than most people have.
Santiago feels that the sea is both a dangerous and wonderful thing. ... Santiago both loves and hates the marlin after he hooks it. After a while Santiago starts to realize that it is going to be either him or the fish. After the long fight Santiago finally kills the fish and he is happy but he is exhausted and far away from home out in the bay. Santiago feels like the fish represents a challenge for him presented by nature that he has to overcome. ... After the fish is dead Santiago doesn’t seem to care if he makes it back home or not because he has done what he always wanted to do, he has caught one big fish.
