Chemical Dependence

The statistics are in, and they have a lot to say. It seems that work may indeed be hazardous to my health. Every time I open a dirty process chamber, I wonder if what I am doing may be detrimental to my health. According to “Where the Chips Fall: Environmental Health in the Semiconductor Industry” by Ron Chepesiuk, my concerns may just be more than paranoia. In 1996, 128 former IBM workers and their families filed suit against large chemical manufacturers, claiming they had suffered adverse health effects. Also 70 Women in Scotland are suing National Semiconductor claiming they too were exposed to cancer-causing chemicals. Now these lawsuits have to be taken with a grain of salt as I don’t know all of the details involved, but the powerful undertones of the article is that exposures are happening, and not everyone knows what the consequences may be.
