The object of this cross-sectional/longitudinal study was to develop a more comprehensive measure of the relationship between major aspects of a child’s home environment and developmental outcomes. Variables examined were, poverty, learning stimulation, parental responsiveness and spanking.
Sample:
The National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (NLSY) data files from 1986-1994 was used to locate the original sample which consisted of 6,283 women who had at least one child born prior to the 1994 biennial assessment. ... Parental responsiveness as a factor in early motor and social development did show a small but significant relationship but amongst nonpoor Hispanic Americans more parental responsiveness showed a tendency to be associated with increased behavior problems.
