What is Color Theory? ... It is an Element of Art (parts of a work of art - color, value, line, shape, form, texture and space) that, along with the Principles of Design, help you create and talk about art. Color, when introduced to a composition, is an element that adds life, dimension, emotion, and even meaning. How do we see color? Color is produced when light strikes an object and reflects back in your eyes. This element of art has three properties: Hue -the name of a color (ex. - red, yellow, blue), Intensity -the purity and strength of a color (ex- bright red or dull red), and Value -the lightness or darkness of a color.
