indians and colinists view of the land
In my paper I will be examining the Indians and Colonists view of the land, its natural resources and how they felt it should be used. ... I will also be explaining why the ecosystem of New England dramatically changed because of the contrasting view the Europeans had of the land compared to that of the Indians. ... Before the Europeans arrived to the colonies the Indians lived off the land, free to move around with an abundance of land and natural resources. The Northern Indians relied mostly on hunting and fishing for their food source, while the Southern Indians relied on agriculture. ... Once the land they used for agriculture lost its fertility they simply migrated to where there was fertile soil. They also would set fire to the land after its fertility was gone so that the soil could regenerate. Indians would also relocate to accommodate the changing of the seasons, for instance if there were more deer in the summer in a particular place they would travel there to hunt.
