In today’s society there are many forms of oppression, be it the obvious or the oppression that is sometimes only seen by those who want to make a difference. An example of this can be seen in PK the main protagonist of the movie The Power of One. In this movie a system of oppression occurs that only certain people can see. PK is one of these people; he is a main character in the movie that actually realizes what is happening and wants to make a difference. The qualities that PK exhibits throughout the movie are none other than the qualities of a hero, someone who is not blind to the real world around him and someone who is willing to take a fall if others may rise. A common characteristic among heroes is that of determination. An example of PK demonstrating his determination occurred when he was only a child, before he even new about the abuse that the native Africans where having to go through. While PK was attending the Africaner boarding school, he was submitted to many seams of what some would call torture. And although it may have seemed as though all PK did at the time was sit around and not fight back, he showed much determination when he choose to go on with his beliefs.
