Right away in Macbeth, the first scene is three witches appear out of a thunder and lightning storm, chanting gibberish and making a plan to meet again after the battle to confront Macbeth. The witches tell Macbeth that he will be thane of Cawdor as well as king someday. ... If it weren’t for Macbeth running into the witches, he wouldn’t have turned from a courageous Scottish general who is not naturally inclined to commit evil deeds, to a “beast” that desires power and advancement through killing Duncan, Banquo, and Macduff’s family to become king.
