I completely agree with the end result of Descartes’ proof of the existence of God. ... The problem I have with the whole proof isn’t so much the actual proof but the guy who wrote it. I think Descartes was a closet solipsist with a strong bent toward elitism that even excluded his scholastic peers. ... Had I the forward thinking mind of Descartes and had I lived in the same era, I probably would have been the same. I have to admit the educational climate of the time was hardened, embroiled in religion and filled with an elitism that more than overpowered that displayed by Descartes.
To begin with, I think I’ll take a chapter from Descartes himself and admit that I don’t have the philosophical background he was steeped in.
