My Reflection On Internship

Bewilderment. That's the first sentiment I experienced when we
received news of our internship placement. Indeed the lecturers
have all been nagging at us to get portfolios ready in advance and
we have all retaliated with our wails and hails of lack of time and
work overload. The lecturers were right, we should always prepare
for interviews and portfolios at least a week in advance.

It is always better to ask our seniors about the various companies
and do research on the companies. This ensures that our portfolio
is arranged properly and suits the interviewing company's needs.

My first interview was a disaster. I was too nervous and it was too
rushed. ( I printed out my portfolio minutes before the interview.)
One should always carry particulars of family and close ones for an
interview as well as pencil and correction pens. I made a few
mistakes filling up the job application and I had to cancel all of
them. Not a very sightly impression to leave. The interviewer was
Ms. Hwee, PA to the creative director of Su Yeang design. She was
very nice and friendly.... and she could tell I was very nervous.

Nervousness is my biggest weakness. Maybe its more accurate to
say the lack of skill in hiding my nervousness cause me to lose
the internship. I think its good to briefly run through the portfolio
then pick a few pieces to talk about. It gives a good chance to
highlight certain skills and leave a positive record. After the first
interview, I've learnt to organise my portfolio better, dividing
the pieces to genres and boosting presentation. It is good to put
some work in not because they were good but showed relevant
skills. A good habit was to clear my head before an interview and
