AMD Athlon XP vs Intel Pentium 4

Because Intel usually designed product flawlessly, campaigned advertisement aggressively, and achieved expectations thoroughly, many owners of IBM-Compatible systems perceived Intel as the only reputable CPU manufacturer. Later on though, AMD (Advanced Micro-devices) subcontracted to Intel and produced near replicas of Intel CPUs, which performed better at substantially lower price points. However, AMD no longer subcontracts to Intel, and now develops its own architecture. AMD blundered along the way, producing the K5, which couldn’t hold a candle to an Intel Pentium. However, the AMD K6 series were on par with Intel counterparts; Athlons (K7) crushed early Pentium III’s; Thunderbirds gave early P4’s a run for their money. Released in mid-October 2001, AMD unveiled the Athlon XP.
