A Day in the Park
On any given day, you can go to the park and find a variety of things going on. The park is somewhat of a meeting place for many people. Some meet for birthday parties, play basketball, swim, walk the track, or just to relax. I recently spent a day in Creekmore Park in Fort Smith, AR, becoming familiar with some of the activities you will see.
The weather was pleasant. There was a slight breeze you could feel and see as the bare tree branches moved. The sun was peeking out just enough to make it feel comfortable. You could hear the birds chirping giving sign to spring coming soon.
I first noticed a middle-aged couple taking advantage of the well-constructed walking track the park provides. They kept up their pace steadily only stopping to do the brief exercises you will find along your walk. Keeping a conversation and the smiles on their face revealed they were enjoying themselves.
As I was sitting there on the hard concrete bench, I could hear the sounds of the train making its way around the track. The horn was blowing, the children were screaming with excitement, and the parents were laughing. Their hair was blowing in the wind as they passed by.
Looking to my left, I could see several boys in their twenties had gathered for an afternoon of basketball. All dressed in shorts and t-shirts, you could tell they were ready for the challenge. Each taking a quick drink from their orange Gatorade bottles before the game began.
I then noticed a little boy, probably around six, running to his mother exclaiming, "Please push me on the swing." Running with her son, they joined several other children
with adults at one of the many swing sets. As an adult pushed each child, they screamed from the height of the swing and laughed with joy.
