Chasing Amy

Chasing Amy is a romantic comedy that follows Holden McNeil in falling in love with a lesbian by the name of Alyssa Jones. In this film, Holden is portrayed as a conservative individual who is compelled by rigid ideas of what is “standard”. He is one that is dominated by his stereotypes. Alyssa, on the other hand, is portrayed as someone that has set her romantic sights elsewhere. In other words, she only has eyes for women. The film Chasing Amy demonstrates jealousy between Banky, Holden’s best friend since childhood, and Holden. It also displays that there is no sense of trust for Alyssa from Holden. Last but not least, Chasing Amy reveals that a partner’s sexual past can ruin a great relationship. Banky, being the best friend that he was, had found out about her promiscuous past dating back to high school and informed Holden of it. Banky demonstrates that he is helping a friend out but at the same time he is somewhat jealous of the relationship that Holden has. He misses his friendship. With the news that Holden was told, he felt as if he was inferior to Alyssa and that she had been lying to him all this time. I know that what happened in the past is in the past and should stay in the past, but some people cannot let go of that. Trust is another major factor to have between you and your significant other.
