Analysis for Macbeth Act 5, Scene 1
Act 5, Scene 1 is probably one of the most significant
scenes that was written for the play. This scene
was better recognized for being called "the sleepwalking
scene", simply because Lady Macbeth is the one who sleep
walks throughout the scene. There are only three characters
in the scene, the Gentlewoman, the Doctor, and Lady
Macbeth.
The Gentlewoman is concerned with Lady Macbeth when
she starts seeing her rise up late at night and then would do
thing's that a person would do when their awake. So then
she gets a doctor to observe with her, and possibly might be
able to find a way to help. During their observation, the
Doctor was surprised to see Lady Macbeth and that fact that
she was sleepwalking. However, both the Doctor and the
Gentlewoman had no idea what they were about to hear, and
from the lips of Lady Macbeth herself. What was suppose to
be an observation, will turn out to be a confession.
In the beginning of the play, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth
were very close to one another, however, as the play
progressed they grew further apart. So because of this,
you can never really tell what was going on in her head. This
is the only scene in the entire play where you saw Lady
Macbeth's raw emotion. You also got to see her in a state of
fear and weakness. This is the only scene where she
confessed all of her thoughts on what was happening and
how she felt about it.
