Rocking Horse Winner
In the short story :The Rocking Horse Winner,; D. ... At the end of the story, when Paul drives himself into brain-fever, instead of putting a stop to the entire ordeal, Oscar places the bets on the horse of Paul・s choice, :in spite of himself;(329). He shows no concern for his nephew as Paul lies in an unconscious state, just as long as Oscar knows the winner. The last example of Oscar・s selfishness is when he sends the gardener to Paul・s room to tell him about the winning horse instead of going himself. ... But Oscar himself sums it up beautifully when he says, :He・s best gone out of a life where he rides his rocking-horse to find a winner; (320).
