David is a interesting and unique character in “The Chrysalids”. He is friendly, and very trustworthy, for someone of his age and environment. He is also a very gifted child. David is a round Character, with many traits. David is very friendly and caring towards Sophie. When Sophie and David first met, Sophie ends up getting her foot wedge in between two rocks. David helps her to get her shoe off, to free her foot. When Sophie’s foot is free David sees that she has six toes, but yet he helps her back to her house, when it is against the law to help or not report a Blasphemy, immediately. David likes Sophie for who she is, and could care less about the fact she is a Blasphemy. He knew the Definition of Man, “yet the sight of Sophie’s six toes stirred noth- ing in [his] [mind]” (11).
