I was born in 1736 in Newington, Virginia. My father George Braxton was a wealthy planter, and my grandfather Robert Carter was once the president of the king's council. I received my education at the college of William and Mary, and when I was nineteen I married the daughter of a wealthy planter. A few years later, she died, and I journeyed to England for some time.
