Genocide Never Forget

... Why did I never hear of the mass murders that occurred within the country of Rwanda? These mass murders were the genocide of the Tutsis people of Rwanda. After reading Season Of Blood by Fergal Keane and watching the films in class, I have small understanding of what actually happened during this genocide. But wait, a genocide? I thought this was supposed to happen “never again” after the genocide of the Jews. I feel that the rest of the world is somewhat responsible for this genocide. The United States and virtually the rest of the world were well aware of what was going on in Rwanda, but they chose to ignore the fact that a genocide was actually occurring. While the Tutsi people were being murdered, the Americans along with the UN decided to avoid the word “genocide. ... The Belgians on the other hand seemed to have more of a first hand effect in this genocide. ... After the Jews and the world said “never forget,” we have to ask the all important question, why did the world forget? ... In a sense, the US, French, UN and other countries around the world chose to act on personal greed and safety instead of acting on the idea of “never again.” Within Fergal Keane’s book Season of Blood he takes a first hand look at the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide, while he took a second hand look at what actually happened to lead up to this massacre and the events that took place during.
