Making School Safer and Healthier The question has come up as to what we, the school improvement council, can do to ensure that our schools are safer and healthier. ... Although I agree that the three things mentioned are extremely important in making schools safer and healthier, I think that we must address specific issues. These issues include, but are not limited to sex education, drug education, health education, school cleanliness, school safety, and the thing that ties them all together, CHARACTER EDUCATION. In order to create a safe and healthy school environment, we must not rely on knowledge alone, but educate our students by making them aware of the moral issues involved in all of the aforementioned issues. We must help students to realize that they are indeed responsible for their actions and equip them with the decision making skills to make the decisions that will be both safe and healthy for them and all involved. ... Not only is this prevalent in our high school, but the problem has crept into our elementary schools.
