A Lesson before Dying Book Review When I first started reading this book it was really slow for me, there was something about it that really seem to drag on. There was something that was very familiar about it as well and I couldn’t put my finger on it, whether I had read about this kind of scenario before or I read the book. After we saw the movie I realized that I saw the movie before and that was what was making the book seem like a drag because I heard it all before. ... It is Tante Lou who asks her nephew who she raised to do what Emma wants, to visit Jefferson in jail and teach him some kind of a lesson before he dies.
