African American Performing Art



There are many different types of ways that we as human beings express ourselves. When we are sad, we sometimes cry. When we are happy, we often smile. Sometimes when we are afraid we may get nervous or quiver and at certain occasions when it is appropriate we celebrate. African Americans being very spirited, spiritual and emotional express ourself in many different manners. Being very much in tune with the earth and the earth's vibes and being the original people of the earth we as a people have branched out into many different genres of expressing ourselves.
From the beginning of civilization we have danced or if not danced sang our if not sang painted or if not painted pretended or imagined ourselves as something other than who we really are (much like acting). Performing art or even visual art is used in many ways. Whether we sing for entertainment or have danced as a reaction to a tragic event such as a funeral. Performance whether we are aware of it or unaware has been apart of our roots and is in our blood. From a scientific point of view we as African Americans possess melanin in our skin, which gives us our pigment or color. Melanin is in our skin courtesy of the suns rays and gives us not only a direct correlation with the sun and the earths spirit per say but a natural since of rhythm and coordination. This is the primary reason in my opinion that African American dancers are so exciting to watch, and that when it comes to singing that African Americans have so much rhythm and soul. This also branches out into other areas from sports to anything. African Americans are naturally more gifted and coordinated than any other race.
Indigenous people for example danced for numerous reasons. Indigenous people such as the Plains Indians of the central states of America danced for rain for their crops. They sang and chanted around huge bond fires in praise so that...
