American History X & Hunger of Memory It is amazing how different a person’s life can become from one situation to the next. Depending on where they are or whom they are with, they can be a completely different person. This goes simultaneously for Richard Rodriguez and Derek Vinyard (Edward Norton in American History X.) When they are at home with their families they seem to be one person, then when away from the confinements of home, they change. We can easily see in Richard Rodriguez’s autobiography Hunger of Memory that his persona drastically changes when his environment changes.
