Tender Branson is alone on a plane flying somewhere over the Australian outback. This plane will crash in a matter of hours and he is dictating his entire life story into the flight recorder box. Tender Branson is the last surviving member of the “Creedish Death Cult.” Tender was raised in the Creedish church’s colony. After he reached a certain age he was sent out into the real world. This was the beginning of the end for Tender Branson. He will eventually become a media messiah, a national obsession, until his eventual death in the crash flight 2039. Tender Branson undergoes a drastic change in his personality from the beginning of the novel compared with the end. He goes from being a obedient child in the church colony, to completely selling out his religion and everything he was raised to believe. The reality of the world completely changed his outlook. Fame warped his mind. He was turned into a monster. Tender Branson grew up as a member of the Creedish. The Creedish was a religious cult whose “colony” was located in Nebraska. The first born son in every family is named Adam. All other sons in the family are named Tender. All girls are named Biddy. Tenders tend and Biddys do their bidding. Once the Tenders reach a certain age they must go off to work in the outside world.
