Chapter One Exercises 1) One example of an industry for which an IT failure would be catastrophic is the Air Traffic Control industry. They have come to rely on computers working out flight paths for them, the height and speed of the aircraft and whether or not there is a chance that 2 aircraft will collide. Another example of an industry for which an ICT failure would be catastrophic would be the Nuclear power industry. ICT is used to measure all the instruments and make sure that they are all within safe levels. If ICT failed then all the readings would have to be done manually and this may not be possible. 2) Two social impacts that are commonly identified when ICT is brought into a business are that many people will begin to work ‘away’.
