Individual Rights vs. Social Responsibility
There is an ongoing debate in our society between individual rights and social responsibility. ... We are a people bound by the Constitution, which is the basis for our individual rights but we are also a society in need of public order. ... Despite the obvious need and value of social responsibility and public order, nothing is more important to us as humans, especially as Americans, as our individual rights. It is the foundation of our nation and is set forth in our Bill of Rights.
Individual rights are the rights guaranteed to all members of American society by the U. ... In the criminal justice system individual rights advocates seek to protect personal freedoms within the process of criminal justice (Schmalleger 6-7). This type of person is willing to allow guilty people to go free on technicalities in order to preserve the ideal of individual rights. An individual rights advocate believes that a guilty person should be let off if his rights have been violated.
