Examine a postcard of Bristol and assess its cultural significance

The postcard I have chosen is a composite of photographic images of Bristol. I will deal with each image in turn and then offer a broad overview, saying what the images together tell me about Bristol. My first reaction to the card is that it shows Bristol to be a very historic city, with several tourist sights. As Burgess states, the ‘provinces’ now market themselves more than ever before (Burgess 1981), and this is a postcard that markets Bristol as a very attractive city in which to live and work. ... This is a clear portrayal of the attractive nature of Bristol, with countryside being easily accessible. ... However, this is where the image at the bottom left of the card is useful, as it offers a more urban outlook of Bristol, even though there is still open land visible in the background.
