Secrets could not be secrets unless they stay hidden, kept inside one’s heart and soul. Secrets cannot just be revealed to anyone, they must not be talked about or even mentioned, for they could become known to the public. ... Through the novel, A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens portrays the characters as continually having a secret to hide; whether from the past, the present, or in the future; that when revealed, created consequences in which the characters were forced to endure. The events of the story caused the secrets to become more vulnerable and made the beholders of the secrets to become more and more afraid that the truth will be unleashed. ... They show the true evidence of holding many secrets within themselves. Sometimes, they even needed to lie so that they could keep their secrets from being brought out into the light of day. ... Therefore, all the chaos that went about in the courtroom, all the tears his daughter shed in those few days, all the guilt he felt within, proved to be the reasons for his keeping the secrets of his past.
