Same Sex Parenting-Riaz Charania Mostly every child, throughout his or her life, has at one time or another, been looked after by a parent or someone who assumes the role of parenting. ... Due to this desire, they are adopting children in places where same sex adoptions are legal, however, there are still many places where same sex adoptions are prohibited, and there are many people who want to ban homosexuals from adopting in the places where it is currently legal. ... I believe that a person’s sexuality does not matter when it comes to the act of parenting, caring, and loving a child. ... Over the years, many arguments against same sex parenting have been brought forth by religious institutions, and more conservative organizations. ... People also tend to harbor the belief that if two people of the same sex were to raise a child, the child would grow up psychologically disturbed due to teasing, or that the child would grow up, and become gay themselves. ... Recently I discussed the issue of same sex parenting with him. I asked him what his opinion on same sex parenting was, and his response was; “A lot of people think Gay parents make Gay kids, but HELLO, my parents are straight. ... Of course not, so why have the same problem with children whose parents are gay or lesbian? ... ” At this very same meeting, another conclusion was made by Fiona Tasker of Birbeck college in the Netherlands, where she stated; “ we found that the non-biological lesbian parent was usually more involved with the children than are the fathers of heterosexual couples.” Although same sex parenting is legal in many places around the world, the struggle continues for many homosexual couples that are willing to adopt children who are currently in the Foster care system looking for a family.
