Mirror by Sylvia Plath

“Mirror” is a poem about self-image, and the concern we have with our appearances. ... A mirror always tells the truth, makes no judgements, and reflects everything it sees. In lines 1-4 personification is used with the use of the word “I” when describing the mirror. The mirror is saying it doesn’t lie, whatever it sees it reflects. The mirror says it sees everything “Just as it is, unmisted by love or dislike,” (line 3) which means the mirror favors no one, and treats everyone the same. Lines 5-9 tell us about what the mirror does when no one is around. The mirror stares at the pink-speckled wall, which gives us a mental picture (imagery).
