Cultural Resume After doing some extensive research on the country of Argentina, I have found that there are several cultural differences that could cause the greatest communication barriers with people from our American culture. ... One of the first communication problems an American would have if he were to travel to Argentina would be the language. According to Intercultural Encounters, culture is communication and communication is language, so it is important to understand the effect culture has on its language. ... According to Argentina culture shock, there are several important non-verbels people should know when traveling to Argentina, because what you don’t know about non-verbals can hurt you. ... This would most likely be the same case if Americans were to travel to Argentina. ... ” So unless we are from Argentine culture or any for that matter we would not understand the language the same as they do. ... After talking with my aunt who traveled to Argentina, she said, “it is really hard for the people in Argentina to understand why you don’t want to go out late at night and eat dinner. ... An example of this is when my two cousins went to Argentina for there first time. Since their mother let them scrape their plate in the United States they thought they could get away with it there in Argentina. ... This just shows that it is apart of their culture and their belief system. ... A third barrier Americans would face in Argentina is the way of transportation. It’s easy in America to get in a car and drive; however, it is not so easy to do that in Argentina. It is there, that they have the highest number of road deaths each year, and the worst driving conditions, making it a very dangerous place, according to Culture Shock, Argentina. ... According to my Aunt who walked the streets of Argentina, “the people do not stop for pedestrians. ... The reason this would cause a communication breakdown is the fact that both Argentina and America have different perceptions on how driving is suppose to be. ... Americans may not want to risk their life and drive in Argentine cars, and by doing so they offend the drivers in Argentina and make them think we are mean cold people.
