The editing coordinates between one shot and the next and can work to change the message or depiction of the story or film. Hitchcock uses a number of different editing techniques in the film, all of which play an important role in the general form. The first shot of the movie zooms in on the face of a woman. There seems to be no editing of this shot; it is one long continuous shot moving along the woman’s face and finally focusing on her eye. This continuous shot keeps the viewers attention on the screen and draws them into the film, since the camera or film does not blink neither do they. Another frequently used editing technique is the dissolve.
