Although birth is an important job of the vagina – not all women choose to do it. ... Ensler writes this monologue based on her view of the birth of her granddaughter, rather than basing it on an interview as in previous monologues. ...
I was completely fascinated by “the nurse from Ukraine” (page 121). There must be one in every delivery room. I had a similar experience during the birth of my son. The nurse, who had fingers the size of bratwursts, and anyone who was remotely related to obstetrics felt free to come in with rubber gloves on and put their whole hands inside my vagina to check to see how my labor was progressing.
