Japan and China Are they one in the same or Complete Opposites

Both China and Japan are seen as similar economically, socially, and politically, however, they also had their differences which not only established each one as a great power, but it takes Japan away from the shadow of the country only 500 miles to the west, China.

First off, China and Japan had many similarities and differences in the aspect of economy. They shared some of the same views, but as all great civilizations are, they did distance themselves from one another. ... Japan went through a period of isolation in which the emperor of Japan stated that all trade was forbidden. Even though Japan has only one fifth of useable land, Japan still found a way to make things work. ... The Emperor stopped the building of these giant vessels, because since Japan was not trading, the money could be used on other aspects of the country.
