Importance of Family Values

America’s family values are very important and significant to the citizens of this country. For many years, the American family and its values and principles have been one of the top priorities of this nation. The importance of family values is even an essential part of the “American Dream” that we are so warmhearted and affectionate of. The basic idea of success in America today is measured by how well one can provide for their family. However, what does citizenship have to do with family values? It determines these values and set a standard for the American people. Family values are the greatest importance to the American citizen. At the core of American identities and American dreams lies a family. The individuals identity, his or her dreams, in large part depends on the family of origin or a family of choice. The individual is shaped through beliefs, values, and assumptions that the family holds about the world and that are based on family members experiences and collective memory. The family itself, in turn derives its values from the social, cultural, political, and philosophical assumptions and beliefs of the larger, and more dominant culture.
