Montana 1948 Essay
Wesley is in a difficult spot when it comes between the choice of protecting his family name, what is right and wrong in his mind and upholding the law. Right from the start of the novel it is easy to tell that Wesley is pressured by his father to follow what he wants, how he wants it. His father, Julian, is constantly comparing Wesley to Frank, always making Wesley look and feel like a failure. Although Julian had passed on the job of Sheriff in Montana to Wesley, to keep the family name in power, it is still much of a second choice; Wesley was studying to be an attorney, and Frank was to be a doctor, Julian more or less regarded Wesley’s career preference less significant.
