Despite stronger efforts by institutions to stop cheating, students continue to engage in it. Among the many reasons why students cheat on exams, not studying, being under pressure, and having previous experience not being caught have to be three of the most popular. The most obvious reason for cheating on exams is probably lack of studying. Many students simply do not feel the need to study for exams. They do not foresee being obligated to know the information for future endeavors; as long as they can copy the answers from other’s papers, they continually ask the question, “Why shouldn’t I cheat? ... By not studying, students who wish to do well on exams are compelled to cheat. Students feel pressure to do well in their academics; pressure comes from family members, professors, and even coaches. Constant reminders of high expectations can make students feel anxious about taking tests. ... Professors indirectly put pressure on students by not giving but a few exams per semester; students realize that messing up on a single test could seriously damage their grade.
