The major reasons identified in this document will be · The history of vocational education and training, · Globalisation, · Introduction of national standards · Unified training system Vocational education and training in Australia had its inceptions in the mid to late nineteenth century with the establishment of mechanics institutes, school of arts, schools of mines and technical and working men’s colleges to develop the skills of Australia’s working population. For almost one hundred years, training and institutions were largely male orientated, working fulltime in a narrow band of trade related industries. ... There was an increase in women entering or re-entering education and the workforce. The nineteen seventy four the Kangan Report on Needs in Technical and Further Education defined the roles and the mission of what is now known as the Technical and Further Education (TAFE) system. The training style changed to a more preparatory and pre-vocational training and a reduction in the growth of traditional trade and technical training. ... A number of reports identified that training needed to be tailored more to the individual as well as the industry specific requirements. The Carmichael Reports in the early nineteen nineties looked at increasing training systems, encouraging participation in training of younger people and an integrated national training system. ...
