... “The Stranger” by Albert Camus is a relatively short story about a man who may be considered, well, strange. The ‘Stranger’ is a man named Mersault who lives in France in the mid 1900’s. ... This is rather absurd, most people would take the chance to pay their last respects to their mother, however ‘the stranger’ dismisses it without a thought. ... Throughout “The Stranger”, Mersault makes it very clear that he could really care less about most stuff. ... For most this would not make for much of a relationship, but by now, can be expected of ‘the stranger’. ... Either way, the old man is an excellent use of symbolism in “The Stranger”.
