In life, there is a certain age when people mature. ... In the story “A Cat in the Rain”, author Earnest Hemmingway portrays a young upper class woman as being bored, immature, and unappreciative.

Some may believe that Hemmingway use of the cat is symbolizing that the woman wants to start a family of her own, and be a mother. ...
The young woman also seems to be very bored, sitting in the hotel room not being able to do much since its pouring down rain outside. ... She is also very spoiled, in a sense that when she is bored she seems to be the kind of woman who needs to be occupied at all times, and that she needs to be entertained constantly. ...
The woman also seems to be very unappreciative of what she has in her life. ... So finally the young woman got what she wanted.
I think that in the story Hemmingway did a great job showing the side of a bored, whiney, unappreciative upper class woman. ... I really like this story it was well written and I enjoyed Hemmingway’s subtle attack on the woman.
