Other information processes All information processes play a role in communication. Important ones include collecting, processing and displaying. Collecting Collecting data for a system involves generating the data to be transmitted. This data comes from a range of collection devices including: · ATM terminals for banking · EFTPOS terminals in a store · Telephones for voice mail · Video cameras in a surveillance system Processing Processing is the manipulation of data. In communication this involves encoding and decoding data. There are four encoding and decoding possibilities in transmission: · Analog data to analog signal · Digital data to analog signal · Digital data to digital signal · Analog data to digital signal An analog signal is a wave form transmitted through a medium, while the digital equivalent is made up of a binary signal which is reproduced as a wave form.
