obisity in dogs

What is obesity? As far as your vet is concerned, your dog is obese if he weighs about 20 percent more than he should. Obesity is the number one nutritional disorder among dogs. Studies suggest that about 25 percent of the dogs presented to veterinary clinics are overweight. Pets of any body condition can get diabetes, but the disease is more difficult to manage in obese pets because the additional body fat interferes with insulin’s success. Problems such as torn ligaments are more common in obese pets both because of their unequal size and because they often do not have the muscle tone to balance and support the extra weight.
